Included in both Viewer and Enterprise Editions of DMC, you can use the Portable Version feature to create a DMC environment on a USB drive, memory card, CD-ROM, etc. that you can take with you to use at your client's office.
(if you have a licensed version then your license will be copied into the Portable version you create)
You can access the option to create a Portable Version from the File menu.

Creating a Portable Version
If your license allows it, the Create Portable version button will be available. This launches the Portable Version process. You will need to have a portable device, USB, Memory Card, etc., plugged in the computer where your licensed version of DMC is installed. In order to create a Portable Version, you must have internet access or you will get an error message and the Create Portable Version button will be disabled.

Click on Select button and choose the Root Directory or drive letter associated with your portable device. All of the necessary files will be created in the ROOT directory of your portable media. Nothing will happen if you click Continue without first selecting a Root Directory.
The path you select will be checked to ensure the type of device is acceptable for this use by DMC, and it will be checked for sufficient disk space. If the destination does not have at least 75 MB of free space, then you will be notified and will be returned to the Root Directory prompt.
The latest version of DMC is downloaded from the internet and your active license (if it exists) will be copied and applied to the portable version. You can use Windows Explorer to verify that all relevant files were copied to the destination media. If you look under cfg_import, you will see that no dmc.ini file is present; this is an indication that the Portable version has not been initialized on any computer.
You can now take your portable media and plug it in to any computer. If DMC does not automatically start to initialize itself, then run dmc.exe from the root directory of your portable media. DMC will be initialized when it is run for the first time on this computer, and then will work just like the version you are using on your regular computer. Once DMC Portable Version is initialized on any computer, you will find the dmc.ini file in the cfg_import directory. Do not delete this file or you will lose your setup information.
Resetting a Portable Version
Once you have finished working with the DMC Portable Version on your client's computer, you should RESET the Portable Version to clean up the registry on their computer. This will also clean up any settings specific to that computer on your Portable Version, allowing you to take the Portable Version to another computer (or again to the same one).
With your USB (or other portable media) still attached to your client's computer, select Portable Version from the Files menu.

Click Reset All to begin the process. Note, this Reset option can only be found in the Portable Version of DMC; you will not be able to perform this function from your fully licensed version of DMC.

Once you click Continue to confirm the reset, the dmc.ini file (which contains information specific to this computer) and all entries in registry of the HOST computer will be deleted. Once the reset is complete, then the confirmation will close, and you can select Close the application from the information bar to close DMC. Eject your portable media, and you are done.
Deleting a Portable Version
If you ever need to delete a Portable Version (ie, to reuse your portable media or to upgrade your Portable Version), then use the Delete Portable Version button in the Portable Version module. After clicking Delete Portable Version, you will be prompted to select the ROOT directory of the Portable version you wish to delete.

Please be very careful when you click Continue to confirm that you want the delete process to proceed. Make sure you have kept a copy of any important data you may have pulled from your client's computer, because once you confirm, all of the data in the selected path will be destroyed.
After the deletion is completed, a message will pop up to notify you of its success.
