Portable Version

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

You can CREATE directly a PORTABLE version of DMC to store on a USB Key - a Memory Card - a CD ROM etc .... and take along with you when going to see your clients.

Open the "Portable Version" Module to access all features :

dmc_portable_main

Creating a Portable Version :

If your licensing allows it the "Create Portable version" button will be available

This launches the Portable version process - you will need to have an USB - Memory Card etc.... device plugged in the machine PLUS you will need to have your XML Licence File handy (EVEN if the activation code obsolete)

A message will come up for you to select the destination ROOT directory to create the Portable version on

Click on the "Select" button and choose the ROOT directory you want to use ( all files will be copied in a x\Data management directory always - do not try to change this path)

If you click on "Carry on" without any path selected nothing will happen

The path selected will be checked to ensure the support type is acceptable for this usage by DMC - If the destination support does not have 50 Mb free space then a message will warn you about this and you will be able to start again after deleting some files.

In which case , please select another path

During the creation process your active license will be copied and applied to the portable version

You can then use the Windows Explorer to check that all relevant files were copied properly to the destination support directory :

If you look closely you will see that no 'dmc.ini' file is present : this means that the Portable version needs to be initialized ON ANY COMPUTER you want to work on (other then the Parent one : if you try it on this one then a message will popup telling you so and DMC will close down)

You can take the USB key (or other support) and plug it in any computer  : DMC will be initialized at first run then will work like the version you are using on your regular computer

After this first initialization, DMC will run normally on THIS computer ONLY.

When DMC is inited on any computer, you will find in the Data Management directory a file called 'dmc.ini'. (DO NOT delete it)

RESETTING a Portable version

When you have finished working on THIS computer, DO NOT FORGET to RESET this Portable version to be able to use it again on ANY OTHER (or eventually the same but again it will need to be re - inited)

To do so, open under "Settings" the same "register application" module and use the "Reset" button which you will find only in Portable version's

After clicking on this button the dmc.ini file will be deleted and all entries in registry of the HOST machine will be erased - then this window will simply close down indicating you can close DMC.

Updating a Portable version

If you are notified of a DMC update by email, you can update your Portable Versions from the main host computer, simply by opening the "Portable Version" module and after plugging in your USB (or other support containing the Portable version of DMC)

Then just click on the "Synch." button and select the destination directory to update

Select the ROOT directory - like previously done - and let DMC update all files

A warning message will be shown after the process to let you know of the success!

Deleting a Portable Version

If ever you need to delete a Portable Version (to reinstall it on another support for example), then use the "Delete portable version" button from the "Portable Version" module

After clicking on the "delete" button a screen will popup to ask you to select the ROOT directory of the Portable version to delete

BE VERY CAREFUL AS ANY MISTAKE DONE HERE WILL DESTROY ANY DATA IN THE SELECTED PATH - so please double check before confirming the deletion

After the deletion is done a message will show up to let you know of the success
